He he... amazing but funny things happened back then with so few rules about racing and the dangers. Smoking cigarettes in the pit and while cars were being fuelled and long pit stops where they could actually have a cuppa! Photographers and spectators in really dangerous places. I bet if they were driving in saloon cars that they smoked as well!!!

those were the days my friend ! Here in India in the 70s road rallying was picnic like , sandwich in one hand steering wheel in the other !!!

Yesterday I was cruising on the highway at about 120 km/h, on my way to work.

On the left lane, in a nice sportscar, I noticed the beautiful driver staring at the side mirror, trying to put on the lipstick!

Of course, she was so distracted that she entered my lane, right in front of me!

I was so scared that I dropped the shaver from the one hand and the sandwich from the other.
I tried to keep the car in a straight line turning the steering wheel with my knees, but the mobile that was resting on my shoulder while talking, dropped into the cup of coffee I kept between my legs and the worst, laptop keys got totally wet...
Luckily, I managed to keep dry the newspaper that was resting on the steering wheel...

But it could happen...

In the good old days we steered with the throttle just as we do now in good old GTL!!!
