Another day, another team:









As it appears to be 2 models per team I'm thinking in doing kind of championship files in the style of GTR2.

I could modify the cupstages.cdb to support them and name the race files something like 1971_Formula1_1.gdb, 1971_Formula1_2.gdb... with the actual races in their actual tracks and real race length, etc (if available, I didn't seek them yet). The first models would race in the earlier races and the second ones... well, you get the picture .

really looking forward to it... I´m still into puzzling the parts together for the 1975 mod - but at least my physics seem to tend in the right way both driving the cars as watching them in replay.

Just in case you need help on this part of the 1971 mod you might give me a hint I won´t be able to to do all the stuff because I really can´t spend as much time in the next month as I like to but I´m able to help.

If you have any suggestions about the track choice, please tell me.

- I have a lot of in-game pictures taken so I'm setting up a gallery where you will be able to follow my obsession and creepiness. Because of their growing numbers I thought of using the ImageShack mass uploader and hosting the whole collection there. I don't know how the hell I'm going to share this thing with you, people, but note that it's being adressed.

Unsolved issues:

- There's a problem with the McLaren M14A, the bloody rear wing refuses to make act of presence. I've tried everything, but none of my tricks did work. I will re-extract its MAS file and restart its conversion when I'm done figuring out the other teams. Or I will put it on fire if it keeps refusing to convert itself

- Be preparing yourselves for rig upgrading, gentlemen, because these babies are HEAVY. My computer is badass, but it fails to keep the 60 fps if there are more than 20 of them on screen. I never thought I would see such a thing so I'm going to optimize every LOD ( fuck!!!!), and it will take some time. I might have to redo the whole thing because of that and because of some issues I'm having with the McLaren skins. They're mixing up in some tracks and I don't know if it's the tracks fault or the cars. In well lightened tracks, like Sebring, they look gorgeous.

Just read about the cancelation of Spa that year, what a shame. The old layout was one of the greatest that F1 ever raced on, IMHO.

Indeed, it was a mistake changing that layout. The result was fine but Spa is a very lucky track. Look what they've done to others, like Hockenheim .

- I found out that I missed several cars. There are a number of skins which don't hav a .veh file associated to them and I skipped them in my first conversion. To solve this I'll redo all the teams. I expect that this solves the issues with the shadows and the mixing up skins as well as the holes in the grids. This would be one of those alternative cars:

you are doing EXTREMELY WELL

I´m quite stunned how fast you cut through that gmt and cas stuff... hats off for your apparent big talent on this. At F1C the modders did nearly every skin or mostly the whole car with different wings, body parts and driversuits that raced that season so it is lots of work just like you mentioned to get the parts together - that´s a good part where and even more why I´m stuck with the 75 season cars. But apart from the vast variety of the grid - yes the data is heavy on the hardware with a full grid It takes even some loading time to get the choosen car viewed in the showroom.

So your efforts are highly appreciated and you might send me pm as soon as you like to use some of my stuff for the 71 season.

If so the 71 grid seems to be complete. Yes nerds - the Lotus 56B with its jet-turbine by Pratt+Whitney is missing - but do we want to drive it

Thanks for the intel . The nº 19 appears to be the high downforce version of the MS120B. I guess it could have raced on slower tracks. I will look into it.

They were the very first models I figured out but I'm very possible to have made a mistake choosing the body and/or wings. I wasn't familiar with the file structure or naming by then. I need to seek for pictures of them before I redo the conversions. Of every model, actually, because when this thing is finally released I want it to reflect the authentic 1971 Formula 1 grids. We're lucky because almost all this info is easily accessible.

I want to do this thing the most accurate possible, but I can't create a car from scratch yet. Even if I could model at all, I'd need to be a GREAT modeler and skinner to match these amazing models. You'll see it when this mod is finally released, they're gorgeous. The snapshots I take don't make these cars any justice.

About the 56B, well, it is not our biggest problem here. Even without leaving Lotus, it's far worse the case of the 72D (we have the 72C). Emerson Fittipaldi raced that car in every race that year but in South Africa and Spain. Reine Wisell raced the 72C in just three races. That leaves us a hole of 8 races without a single Lotus on track, if we are accurate. Suddenly, the 56B doesn't look so important anymore, does it?

I'm redoing all the .cas files now. The goals would be making the mod less fps hungry (the thing has really changed, but for what I've seen so far I wouldn't expect a miracle here...), reviewing the front and rear wing configurations, setting up a new genstring and enhancing the shadows. But also, the seek for new skins. I've found a couple of them so far.

By now, the reviewed cars are the Brabham BT33 and BT34, Gunston Brabham BT26, Gunston March 701, BRM P153 and P160, Ferrari 312 B and 312 B2, Lotus 69 and 72, March Alfa Romeo and March Ford. They all are pretty lighter now, but still too heavy when they come in big numbers.

I'll keep working on the mod this weekend.

I couldn't work in the mod this week (I've been busy with some offline issues), but I've managed to convert the first cockpit:

- Ferrari 312 B







- As you can see, There's a problem with the mirrors, which reflect the pilot, and the fuel cockpit doesn't work. Also, I believe that the wheel is too little or the arms are too open. Anybody knows if the pilot arms can be more closed?

- Streckensau never answered to my email, so I guess he's out of the project.
