 CTD during quick race session (GTL)

Hi All,
I have a weird issue. I am getting CTD's during the quick race session. All tracks and cars initially load with no issues. I have narrowed it down to a specific car (My own conversion from the GTR2 Absolute Can Am Mod). The crash usually happens about 15 minutes into the session. It's not related to any specific session (Practice, Qualify, Race) it just happens regardless of any sessions skipped. Neither is it affected by the track in use or if I am actually driving or sitting in the garage.

Open Practice is unaffected and I can drive around for ages with no CDT.

Up to the point of the crash everything is running smoothly, no stutters or anything, it just freezes and then dumps me to the desktop. I'm no expert in the trace file and nothing jumps out at me as being the obvious culprit.

There is an error relating to a mesh loading AnimationLoa  180: Error loading mesh file M-FANFEMALE-3.GMT.GMT to memory but as I said it happens at all tracks (Just with this single car - All numbers, not just 1 specific ".car" file).

Has anyone experienced this before and could point me in the right direction?

Have you tried "reconverting" the car? I know I have made mistakes and for the life of me, couldn't find the prob...repeat the convert, Voila! Prob solved. Worth a try. Good luck

Hi Jeep,

As a start, you should fix the problem with the track.

You need to edit the GTR2\GameData\Locations\RoadAmericaGP\GPRoadAmerica.ani file.

Look for this section :

//crowd-gal4
Object=SPECTATOR
{
MeshFile=M-FanFemale-3.gmt.gmt ActorFile=M-Crowd_Female-1.LMA Motions=CROWDMOTIONSIDLE1 Pos=(-33.4342, -0.1443, -395.2736) AutoRotate=towards
}

and rename the M-FanFemale-3.gmt.gmt to M-FanFemale-3.gmt
That is, remove the extra .gmt from the end.

This error is also in the WatkinsGlen1967 track so you may as well fix that too Wink
Rinse, repeat on the 67Glen.ani file.

Have you tried the Lola T70 on GTR2 default tracks or just on the Can-Am tracks ?
The trace file isn't indicating a problem with the Lola car so it's impossible to say what is up, but I'd fix those tracks anyway to eliminate some variables.

Hi Both,
Many Thanks for the replies, I'll look at the tracks.

Meanwhile I went back to basics. It runs perfectly in GTR2 and with all the conversions done by those a lot more clever than me I wallowed in self pity for a while. I had re converted the car more than once with unfortunately the same result Sad Eventually this morning more in desperation than anything else I decided to re download the GTR2 pack from scratch. Result is I re converted the Lola from the original download. (Just 1 car number, no BIKS's, active/inactive Icons etc). and lo and behold it works. Shocked So, I'm totally confused at the moment. The car I had converted several times from my GTR2 install appears to be no different to the one from the fresh download but 1 works the other doesn't. Confusion reigns at the moment but A working solution if far better than something which doesn't even if I knew why.

So I am going to re add the BIK's etc 1 step at a time in the hope I either find the problem file or if it all works rinse and repeat for the other car numbers.

Really appreciate the feedback, I'm a complete novice at this and originally only did it because I wanted to learn something about the GTL file system and for my own amusement (I have no established skills to bring to the table). and while conversions like this are probably 2nd nature to most I seem to have lurched from crisis to crisis so sometimes it's really helpful to hear these comments.

@ Jeep,

If you created any Icons for GTL make sure the size of them is 70x66 or this will cause you problems that could CTD the game

Yes, been there done that, got the Tee Shirt. Smile

I think I found it, I need to do a few more tests but so far I seem to be able to CTD or not at will with no file changes at all. It wasn't a file it was something else which may be a windows or GTL limitation which I'm sure everyone else knew about but is a new one on me..

Let me carry out a few more tests before saying what it is in case I'm talking out of my a$$ as usual. Wink

Well, Does this make any sense??

The problem appears to be related to the length of the <PATH>/filename. I had my install nested under several other directories in my "testing" directory" rather than straight off the root directory. The Lola had the longest file name of all "66003_SIM_GTC_lola_t70_SPYDER.car" for example.

Moving the install up several directories stopped the CTD's (Moving it back to where it was and they come back). I was previously aware there was a restriction but I thought is was somewhere around 255 characters and mine wasn't even close to that.

So solved Very Happy but still confused.... confused
